I have had quite a few new visitors of people searching for "Taylor Hicks" and finding my blog.
Was I too harsh in my "Top 10 reasons not to buy" his new cd blog post? Reviews I read said that this CD is much better than the first. So, let me hear from you. What do you think of Taylor Hicks new CD? Are you a fan? Or is it same guy, different CD? Leave it in the comments. Thanks!

Top 10 Reasons Not to Buy Taylor Hicks' New CD
A friend from work was talking about getting the new Taylor Hicks CD. I thought I'd explain to her (and you) why she shouldn't:

10. Regular coasters are cheaper than buying his CD.
9. So are Frisbees.
8. William Hung's CD is cheaper and you get the same basic quality.
7. If you can't watch him go flailing around while singing, what's the point?
6. You can't play it out loud for fear of public beatings.
5. You could use that money for something better... Make a paper airplane out of it, use it as a napkin, etc.
4. Why buy his CD when you can hear him sing at a Rib Fest or a county fair?
3. Have you heard him sing? Seriously?
2. Because admitting stupidity is the first step in the road to rational thinking.

Altar and the Door and the Concert
The Casting Crowns concert was amazing. We had a great time and we were in the sixth row, not seventh as previously blogged. :)
The whole night was very worshipful including a couple of songs from John Waller (The Blessing), a great set by Leeland, and of course Casting Crowns. Mark Hall is an amazing man. He's allowed God to flow through him like few others I've ever seen. He, like everyone else on that stage, was just a regular human being. The message that they conveyed is that each person should walk away not thinking, "those guys are great", but that "our God is so great".
I will have pictures on tonight. They don't do justice to the feel of the concert itself, but they show just how close we really were!

Casting Crowns in concert at Nationwide Arena
We're going to see Casting Crowns tonight at Nationwide Arena. We are in the 7th row back from the stage on one side and I'm very excited! I love this group. Their songs have wonderful messages and they communicate them perfectly. We saw them in Chillicothe a few years back and we're excited to go see them again.

Praise You in This Storm
Praise You in This Storm - Casting Crowns
A friend of mine at work just lost their husband yesterday. I find myself not being able to think of anything else. I often take my life for granted because death seems like such a distant possibility.
When someone in your "circle" passes away life begins to be fragile again. I did not know this man personally, but I had heard a lot about him through his wife. He had health problems, but this was still an extremely unexpected passing. When a friend hurts we should hurt with them. I hurt with my friend today. It is so hard to understand when we lose someone we love or when something tragic happens. Some blame God; some turn to Him. It is the latter group that will find peace and help through those times. The group that blames God usually will find torment and bitterness.
When we lost Emily we found a song that meant so much to us. It was Praise You in This Storm by Casting Crowns. It talks about that even in the midst of life's terrible storms we can find peace. God is our shelter in the storm. We do not have the strength on our own to cope. We need to know that we are taken care of and will be comforted.
The entire message of Praise You in This Storm is one of unwavering devotion to God - even when it is not easy. The moment I realized that I had to give my all to Him in the midst of a struggle was the moment that I found strength. When we lay our burdens upon the big shoulders of Jesus we are able to get up. We are able to breathe. We are able to heal.
I cannot imagine what my friend is going through right now. I will pray for her as will the rest of our church family. That is what they did for us and I know that is what will happen for her. That is the power of God's love in action. We felt that love so strong when we lost Emily. That is why when the next storm comes around I will lift my hands up in praise to the almighty God.

Sweetly Broken
About a month ago I sang at a Sunday evening service at our church. I sang Sweetly Broken by Jeremy Riddle. I have really liked that song from the first time I listened to it. I liked the melody, the sound, and the message. I liked the message, but I did not understand it.
There's an old saying that says, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I know that God feels the same way. Unless we're broken He will not "fix" us. Through a little Bible reading and a Charles Stanley podcast I started to understand what it meant to be broken.Most people might not think that a Christian should ever give up, throw in the towel, or raise the white flag of defeat. Failure is not a pretty word; but failure is a pertinent word. We must fail in what we are trying to accomplish - on our own. Anything that we do on our own is worthless. It is useless. It is just not good enough; nor is it supposed to be good enough.
We must be broken to the very core of ourselves. The old way of "going it alone" need to be thrown out. We must be able to admit once and for all... I cannot do it by myself.
That is like music to God's ears.
Once we have wholeheartedly admitted to the failure in self, we can begin to have victory in God. This is so far from cliche that cliche would need to take three separate airplanes to get here. This is the Gospel Truth. Literally.
I have not been fully broken. I am still working on it. However, I have already noticed a change in my heart. When I have given control to Him I less out-of-control. Such an odd concept, but it works. When we feel like we have no control over our life that just means we have that much control that we need to give to Him.
I am starting a new saying, "If it needs fixed, it needs broken".
