3BT for 3/23/07

I love "strange, but true" news stories. My 3BT for today is 3 of those stories.

1. A fine for releasing a baloon. Little Tommy starts to lose his grip on his shiny red balloon. If you live in New Hampshire you better grab it and tie it to his wrist. NH lawmakers - who have no bigger fish to fry - go after the balloon litter epidemic that is flying accross America. Letting one fly will cost you $250 a pop - pun intended- and then $500 on your next offense. Statistics show that American's find over 1.4 balloons in their yards in their lifetime. So, help save America and hang onto your ballon. To be fair the cops will not write you a ticket if you accidentally let go of a balloon. That means if you plan on letting one go - just stage an "accidental relase". I think they're just filled with hot air.

2. Winnie the Poo, and suspension too! Hardened criminals, terrorists, and dictators. What do they have in common? They all wear cartoon socks. That's what you would think when a 14 year old girl in Napa, CA was placed in a program called "Students with Attitue Problems", their version of in-school suspension. The dress code calls for "solid colors in blue, white, green, yellow, khaki, gray, brown and black" with permitted fabrics of "cotton twill, corduroy and chino". The girl also wore a denim skirt with her Tigger socks, which is not allowed. The blatant disrespect for moral code may land this girl in court, as her parents sue the school system. The lesson here: Wear cartoon socks and you could be up to your ankles in Poo.

3. High on God. These kind of stories give Christians a bad name. A minister of an LA church sues the City police over possessing Marijuana because they "use the pot during services". Rev. Craig X Rubin is the founder of Temple 420 and states that pot is a "religious herb". He says, "Our congregation mandates members study the Bible, have faith in God and regularly burn the herb cannabis (The Tree of Life mentioned in the Bible) as sacrament," Remember that "religious" people are not always good Christian people. They do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. This man is horrible and is more destructive to Christianity than any Atheist or ultra Liberal lobbyist could ever be.
