I agree that it is excessive, but there are a few things to consider here. I am always about perspective. If we look at our salaries, cost of living, and other expenses now as compared to 50 years from now we are not doing too bad. Check out this story by Jerry Taylor and Peter Van Doren in relation to "Gas Prices in Perspective".
Here are some ideas to help save money when you start feeling "gas pains":
1. Consolidate your trips if possible. Plan out what you need and where you want to go ahead of time so that you don't have to go back out as often.
2. Take the lead out of your shoe. Taking off too quick when the light turns green can eat your gas up quick. You're not in a race...and if you are - shame on you!
3. Factor gas into your budget. Give yourself a little extra each month to account for higher prices and you'll be doing just fine.
4. Drive a little less. This seems obvious, but it works. Opt for an evening watching movies at home over going to the Theatre. That will save gas and the price of admission! Play with your kids in the back yard instead of the park this time. Every little bit helps.
Just remember that gas prices are out of your control. The only thing you can control...is how you react to them.
